So, a year ago today, I descended on another of Doncaster’s gig hotspots, a burger bar and music venue called Vintage Rock Bar. I’d been to this venue for a great night of live music a few times and this was one of those. The night began with an acoustic act playing a few covers and one or two originals.
Next up were Walking on Mountains, a band with their own take on electronic alternative rock. An act influenced by Thousand Suns era Linkin Park. An infusion of synths, guitars, electronic drums on top of live drums and post hardcore vocals. Their frontman, Davy Jones’ vocals had a kind of Chester Bennington feel. I talk a lot about stage presence and songs having an impact and these guys were no exception. What a set, it was the first time I had seen them and didn’t want it to be the last.
I’d had the pleasure of seeing Saints Among Us several times. They put on a hell of a show that night. Anthemic synths and guitars and vocals as powerful as the lyrics make this Doncaster/Manchester based female fronted electro alt rock four piece one of the best bands I’ve ever seen. Drawing influence from Paramore with a more electronic touch and belting out a set of stadium rock bangers like Criminal and their finale Kings and Queens made this one of those nights I’ll never forget. An acoustic act and two fantastic bands blew the roof off.
