A year ago, I went to Woolpack Live in Doncaster to see Dead Sense supporting The Sixpounder. As I’ve said before it’s one of my favourite venues, in my favourite town, in God’s own county, Yorkshire. The place just oozes rock.
Dead Sense, a bunch of guys I’ve seen rock the house more times than I can ever count, that night was no exception. Chunky riffs, the kind of songs that make you headbang until you think your head’s gonna come off with bits of Stone Sour with their own personality in the mix. Their frontman commanding the stage with his vocals as much as when he interacted with the crowd. Throwing in the riff from Omen by The Prodigy in between one of their songs.
Next up were Bad Solution, from London. Heavy riffs, lots of double kick pedalling going on and the kind of vocals that really hit the hard rock vibe. Great songs and the kind of stage presence I’d seen a lot of in the scene that had made me fall in love with it.
The last of the three highlights were, The Sixpounder. The Polish groove metallers were on their UK tour and they rocked The Woolly. Heavy guitars and fast rhythms with soft melodic parts too descended on us. Taking influence from the likes of Pantera and Lamb Of God with their own twist. Powerful vocals and melodies with great lyrics and introducing the songs with the kind of vibe that’s very fitting of groove metal and metal in general. Ended up buying all three of their albums after their set because I enjoyed it so much.
