Alt Sounds With No Bounds

Music has always been a big thing in my life since I was young. But my proper introduction to the grassroots scene was a few years ago (2013 I think) when I went to see The Brookes, an alternative rock band from Grimsby at the Warehouse in their hometown. A band who took influence from Arctic Monkeys (in their beginning not the recent stuff) and kind of evolved from that.

Fast-forward to 2017, my inquisitive and adventurous self led me to Tickhill T Fest, in Tickhill a village on the outskirts of Doncaster. The festival itself was a melting pot of different genres; synthpop, alt rock, rock n roll, 90s pop, 90s indie and a DJ playing hard and heavy house music. A garage rock four-piece (now a three piece) called Weekend Recovery (then based in Kent, now in Leeds), whom at the time had more in common sound-wise with Paramore’s early sound but have pulled away that pop punk veil and went a bit grungy, were were one of the reasons I went. Their lyrics and song writing resonated with me. Saints Among Us an alt rock band from Doncaster had their own take on the genre which not long after I saw them for the first time, started to add electronic textures to their music.

Keep checking back for more about my grassroots music adventures.
